Safeguarding

Safeguarding information about our school.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. We believe all staff and visitors have an important and unique role to play in child protection.

To view our policies in relation to safeguarding, please visit our policies page using the link below.

Safeguarding legislation and government guidance defines safeguarding as:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes
  • Safeguarding includes child protection, education, health and care plans, health and safety, site security, school visit safety, anti-bullying, online safety, behaviour and wellbeing work, and much more

We actively support the Government’s Prevent agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.

Our designated safeguarding lead is: Mrs Claire Garbutt (Headteacher)

She is assisted by deputy designated safeguarding leads: Mrs Kelly Lamond (Deputy Headteacher), Mrs Imelda Milner (KS2 Teacher/English lead), Mrs Jenny Brown (EYFS lead) and Mrs Ruth Fish (SENDCO).

The governor with responsibility for safeguarding is Mr John Hindmarch.

We adhere to the following Department for Education safeguarding documents:

We have a number of safeguarding documents which are reviewed regularly. These are:

We work closely with Clennell Educational Solutions to ensure that our policies and practices fulfil our safeguarding responsibilities and reflect recent legislation and/or updated guidance. We carry out an annual audit of all aspects of safeguarding which feeds into to our annual safeguarding action plan. This is reviewed termly in conjunction with our safeguarding consultant.

We work closely with external agencies to support the needs of our children: Together for Children, NSPCC, Social Services, School Health Team, The Road Centre

All staff and governors receive regular updates and training and are aware of the procedures for reporting concerns within school.

If any members of our school or local community, or visitors, have concerns about the welfare of a child in school, they are asked to report them directly to the safeguarding team listed above.

In safe hands

Our very own William and his team of St John’s Ambulance volunteers were on hand at our Summer Fayre to show us basic first aid skills.

Summer Fayre

Our Summer Fayre was a huge success. Thank you to the Friends of OLQOP for their hard work and organisation. Thank you also to the staff who came along to help. We started with sunshine, ended with rain but everyone had tremendous fun inbetween!
